Matthew Hill (born ) is an Australian race caller and sports broadcaster. Hill is currently the chief race caller in Victoria, having called the Melbourne Cup since 2017, previously having been the chief race caller in Sydney. Melbourne Cup
The Melbourne Cup is an annual Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held in Melbourne, Australia, at the Flemington Racecourse. It is a 3200-metre race for three-year-olds and older, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club that forms part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is the richest two-mile handicap in the world and one of the richest turf races. The event starts at 3:00 pm on the first Tuesday of November and is known locally as "the race that stops the nation". The Melbourne Cup has cemented itself as a part of Melbourne and Australian culture, having been run every year since 1861 (except for an intermission during World War I and World War II). Melioidosis
Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by a gram-negative bacterium called ''Burkholderia pseudomallei''. Most people exposed to ''B. pseudomallei'' experience no symptoms, but complications can range from fever and skin changes to pneumonia, abscesses, and septic shock, which can be fatal. Approximately 10% of people with melioidosis develop symptoms that last longer than two months, termed "chronic melioidosis". Prior to the Vietnam war less than a handful of patients had diagnosed in the United States in the twentieth century. Mark Howard (broadcaster)
Mark Richard Howard (born 23 October 1973) is an Australian television presenter and journalist with Fox Sports after previously hosting, presenting and reporting on various events on Ten Sport for over a decade. After a brief stint at the Seven Network, Howard joined Network Ten in 2005, employed for the network's award-winning V8 Supercar coverage for two years. In 2008, Howard joined Network Ten's AFL team as a boundary rider; during this time he covered the 100th goal in a season by Hawthorn's Lance Franklin and co-hosted the 2008 Brownlow Medal "Red Carpet" for the network. Fox Footy (stylised as FOX FOOTY) is an Australian rules football subscription television channel dedicated to screening Australian rules football matches and related programming. AFL Grand Final
The AFL Grand Final is an Australian rules football match to determine the premiers for the Australian Football League (AFL) season. Prior to 1990 it was known as the VFL Grand Final, as the league was then known as the Victorian Football League, and both were renamed due to the national expansion of the competition. Played at the end of the finals series, the game has been held annually since 1898, except in 1924. Brian Taylor (Australian Footballer)
Brian Wayne Taylor (born 10 April 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer and current Australian Football League (AFL) commentator on television for the Seven Network. He played with Richmond Football Club, Richmond and Collingwood Football Club, Collingwood from 1980 to 1990. Playing career Taylor was 16 when recruited from Mandurah, Western Australia, to the Richmond Football Club. The moustached Taylor, known as "BT" and "Bristle", began his Australian Football League, VFL career with Richmond Football Club, Richmond in 1980. Winx (foaled 14 September 2011) is a retired champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse and active broodmare. She won 37 of 43 career starts, including, between May 2015 and her retirement in April 2019, her last 33 races in succession, including 25 Group 1s (a world record), at distances ranging from 1300 metres (roughly furlongs) to 2200 metres (roughly 11 furlongs). Bruce William McAvaney (born 22 June 1953) is an Australian sports broadcaster with the Seven Network. McAvaney has presented high-profile events including the AFL Grand Final, Melbourne Cup, Australian Open, Test cricket and both Winter and Summer Olympics, as well as annual special events such as the Brownlow Medal.
