Matiko (Bilbao Metro)
Matiko is the northern terminus of line 3 of the Bilbao metro. The station is also served by Euskotren Trena commuter and regional rail services. The station is located in the neighbourhood of Matiko-Ciudad Jardín, part of the Uribarri district of Bilbao. In its current form, the station opened on 8 April 2017. History The original station, named ''Matico'', opened on 30 June 1887 as part of the narrow-gauge ''Bilbao-Las Arenas railway'', which connected the city of Bilbao with Getxo. Matico was also the terminus station of the ''Matico-Azbarren railway'', a narrow-gauge mostly underground suburban railway that connected the peripheral municipality of Basauri with central Bilbao at Matico. Getxo () (Spanish: ''Guecho'') is a town located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, in Spain. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Line 1 of the Bilbao metro is a rapid transit line in Biscay, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. Basque Government
The Basque Government (, ; ) is the governing body of the Basque Autonomous Community of Spain. The head of the Basque government is known as the '' Lehendakari''. The Lehendakari is appointed by the Basque Parliament every four years, after a regional election. Its headquarters are located in the Lakua district of Vitoria-Gasteiz in Álava. Euskotren, formally known as Basque Railways (, ), is a public railway company controlled by the Basque Government and officially established in 1982 to operate several narrow gauge railways inside the autonomous community of the Basque Country, under the terms of the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country. Plentzia
Plentzia () is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country. The town has 4,459 inhabitants (2023). Plentzia is located 25 km north-east of Bilbao. It is part of the Bilbao metropolitan area, as well as being the terminus of the first line of the city's Metro.
