Mathias I
Abune Mathias (born Teklemariam Asrat; 5 January 1941) is the sixth and current Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church since 2013. His full title is " His Holiness Abune Mathias I, Sixth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of the See of Saint Taklehaimanot". Early life Teklemariam Asrat was born on 5 January 1941 in Agame, a district of Tigray Province, in Sebuha county. Teklemariam was ordained as deacon in 1954 by Abune Markos, the then Archbishop of Eritrea. Deacon Teklemariam served in several capacities at the Chohé monastery, in Tembien district of Tigray, where he stayed for most of the subsequent 14 years. In 1963, he was ordained as a priest and monk at Chohé. Mengistu Haile Mariam (, pronunciation: ; born 21 May 1937) is an Ethiopian former politician, revolutionary, and military officer who served as the head of state of Ethiopia from 1977 to 1991. Abune Tekle Haimanot
Abuna Takla Haymanot ( Ge'ez: አቡነ ተክለ ሃይማኖት, born Melaku Wolde-Mikael: 21 September 1917 – 29 August 1988) was the third Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church from 1976 to 1988. After political turmoil of the Ethiopian Revolution, the Derg arrested Abuna Theophilos in May 1976 to consecrate Melaku. The government proceeded to hold church assembly to elect the ''bahtawi'' (hermit) Melaku that has little education around the subject. The Derg or Dergue (, ), officially the Provisional Military Administrative Council (PMAC), was the military junta that ruled Ethiopia, including present-day Eritrea, from 1974 to 1987, when they formally "Civil government, civilianized" the administration although remained in power until 1991. Abuna Theophilos (24 April 1910 – 14 August 1979), also known as Abune Tewophilos, was the second Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Holy Trinity Cathedral (Addis Ababa)
Holy Trinity Cathedral, also known in Amharic as Kidist Selassie, is the highest ranking Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was built to commemorate the Ethiopian victory over Italian occupation and is an important place of worship in Ethiopia, alongside other cathedrals such as the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum. Title The cathedral bears the title "Menbere Tsebaot", or "Pure Altar".
