Matheus Gonçalves (born 18 August 2005) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Flamengo. In September 2022, he was named by English newspaper ''The Guardian'' as one of the best players born in 2005 worldwide. Club career Flamengo Matheus Gonçalves signed for Flamengo at the age of twelve, progressing through the youth ranks and signing his first professional contract in August 2021. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as Copa Libertadores de América (), is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The Supercopa do Brasil (), also known as Supercopa Rei (), is a Brazilian association football trophy organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, also known as Copa Sudamericana (; ), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL, the governing body of football in South America, since 2002.
