Materials (journal)
''Materials'' is a semi-monthly peer-reviewed open access scientific journal covering materials science and engineering. It was established in 2008 and is published by MDPI. The editor-in-chief is Maryam Tabrizian (McGill University). The journal publishes reviews, regular research papers, short communications, and book reviews. There are currently hundreds of calls for submissions to special issues, a fact that has led to serious concerns. Maryam Tabrizian
Maryam Tabrizian is an Iranian-born Canadian engineer. A 2010 Guggenheim Fellow, she is Professor of the McGill University Department of Biomedical Engineering. Biography Maryam Tabrizian was born in Rudsar, a city in Gilan province, Iran, and obtained her bachelor's degree in applied chemistry at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 1980. She later moved to Pierre and Marie Curie University, where she obtained her MSc in 1986 and, in a joint program with ESPCI Paris, her PhD in 1990. She later obtained her MBA from HEC Montréal in 1999. She later started working at McGill University, where became a professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and at the Faculty of Dentistry and was director of the 's Centre for Biorecognition and Biosensors from 2002 until 2011. Tabrizian specializes in nanomedicine and regenerative medicine. The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a type of journal ranking. Journals with higher impact factor values are considered more prestigious or important within their field. The Impact Factor of a journal reflects the yearly mean number of article citations published in the last two years. While frequently used by universities and funding bodies to decide on promotion and research proposals, it has been criticised for distorting good scientific practices. Scopus is a scientific abstract and citation database, launched by the academic publisher Elsevier as a competitor to older Web of Science in 2004. The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) is a citation index owned by Clarivate and previously by Thomson Reuters. It was created by the Eugene Garfield at the Institute for Scientific Information, launched in 1964 as Science Citation Index (SCI). It was later distributed via CD/ DVD and became available online in 1997, when it acquired the current name. The indexing database covers more than 9,200 notable and significant journals, across 178 disciplines, from 1900 to the present. These are alternatively described as the world's leading journals of science and technology, because of a rigorous selection process.
