''Mata Hari: The Red Dancer'' (german: Mata Hari, die rote Tänzerin), often shortened on release to ''Mata Hari'', is a 1927 German silent drama film directed by Friedrich Feher and starring Magda Sonja, Wolfgang Zilzer and Fritz Kortner. It depicts the life and death of the German World War I spy Mata Hari. It was the first feature-length portrayal of Hari. It was shot at the Staaken Studios in Berlin with sets designed by Alfred Junge. Friedrich Feher
Friedrich Feher (born Friedrich Weiß, 16 March 1889 – 30 September 1950) was an Austrian actor and film director. He first entered the film business in 1913, starting out as an actor but quickly gravitated toward directing. He is perhaps best remembered as Francis, the protagonist of ''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' (1920). He directed ''The House Without Windows'' that same year (based on a book by Thea von Harbou), in which his art directors mimicked the Expressionist set designs of ''Caligari''; it is now considered a lost film. Feher died in 1950 in Stuttgart at age 61. Louis Brody (born Ludwig M'bebe Mpessa; 15 February 1896 – 11 February 1951) was a Cameroonian-born German film actor, musician and showfighter. Brody was born in Douala, in the German colony of Kamerun, now Cameroon.
