Mastery (horse)
Mastery (foaled 25 February 2006) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career which lasted from October 2008 until 2010 he ran thirteen times and won five races. As a three-year-old in 2009 he won the Derby Italiano and the St Leger. In 2010 he won the Hong Kong Vase. Background Mastery is a bay horse sired by Sulamani the winner of several major races including the Prix du Jockey Club and the International Stakes. His dam Moyesii won only one minor race but was a daughter of the Haydock Sprint Cup and Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Cherokee Rose. Racing career 2008: two-year-old season Mastery made his debut in a maiden race at Nottingham in October 2008. Starting at odds of 15/2 he led from the start and won by four and a half lengths despite being eased in the closing stages. Sulamani
Sulamani (April 9, 1999 – February 18, 2017) was an Irish-bred thoroughbred race horse who competed and won in Dubai, Europe and North America. A great-grandson of English Triple Crown champion, Nijinsky, he made his racing debut in April 2002 at age three and finished seventh. Racing in France, he went on to win the prestigious Prix du Jockey Club and was second in the 2002 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. After his Arc placing, he was purchased by Godolphin Racing. As a four-year-old, Sulamani won the Dubai Sheema Classic but finished fourth in the June 2003 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and finished second in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In the United States, he won two important races, the Arlington Million on a disqualification and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Handicap, before finishing fifth in the 2003 Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park. Prix Maurice De Gheest
The Prix Maurice de Gheest is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 1,300 metres (about 6½ furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event was established in 1922, and it was originally contested over 1,400 metres. It was named in memory of Maurice de Gheest (1850–1920), a member of the Société des Courses de Deauville, a former governing body at the venue. Deauville Racecourse was closed during World War II, and the Prix Maurice de Gheest was cancelled in 1940. For the remainder of this period it was switched between Maisons-Laffitte (1941–43, 1945) and Auteuil (1944). It returned to Deauville in 1946, and it was cut to 1,300 metres in 1966. Breeders' Cup Marathon
The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes, is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds and up, and contested on dirt at usually at a distance of miles. The race has a purse of US$350,000. It is run as part of the undercard for the Friday card of the Breeders' Cup. Race history The race was originally established in 2008 as part of the annual Breeders' Cup World Championships with its inaugural running on October 25, 2008 at a distance of miles as the Breeders' Cup Marathon. The inaugural running took place on the second day of the Breeders' Cup on the Pro-Ride synthetic dirt at the 2008 host track, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Great Voltigeur Stakes
The Great Voltigeur Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old colts and geldings. It is run at York over a distance of 1 mile 3 furlongs and 188 yards (2,385 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event is named after Voltigeur, the Yorkshire-trained winner of the Derby and St Leger in 1850. It was established in 1950, and it was initially called the Voltigeur Stakes. The word "Great" was added to the title in 1957. The Great Voltigeur Stakes serves as a trial for the following month's St Leger, and fourteen horses have achieved victory in both races. Queen's Vase
The Queen's Vase is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old horses. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 1 mile 6 furlongs and 34 yards (2,847 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June. History The event was established over a distance of 2 miles in 1838, and its original trophy was a gold vase donated by Queen Victoria. The race was initially confined to horses aged three, but it was opened to older horses in 1840. Its title was changed to the King's Vase in 1903, and it was given its current name in 1960. Lanfranco Dettori (; born 15 December 1970), better known as Frankie Dettori, is an Italian horse racing jockey based in the United Kingdom. Dettori has been British flat racing Champion Jockey three times and has ridden the winners of more than 500 Group races. This includes 20 winners of the English classics. His most celebrated achievement was riding all seven winners on British Champions' Day at Ascot Racecourse in 1996. Capannelle Racecourse ( it, Ippodromo delle Capannelle) is a horse racing venue in Rome, Italy. The course was constructed in 1881, and it was rebuilt in 1926 to a design by Paolo Vietti-Violi. Conditions Races
Conditions races are horse races in which the weights carried by the runners are laid down by the conditions attached to the race. Weights are allocated according to the sex of the runners, with female runners carrying less weight than males; the age of the runners, with younger horses receiving weight from older runners to allow for relative maturity, referred to as weight for age; and the quality of the runners, with horses that have won certain values of races giving weight to less successful entrants. Conditions races are distinct from handicap races, for which the weights carried are laid down by an official handicapper to equalise the difference in ability between the runners.
