Franc Roddam
Francis George Franc Roddam (born 29 April 1946) is an English film director, businessman, screenwriter, television producer and publisher, best known as the creator of ''Auf Wiedersehen, Pet'' and ''Masterchef'' and as the director of ''Quadrophenia (film), Quadrophenia'' (1979). He is a graduate of the London Film School. ''MasterChef'' is a competitive cooking show television format created by Franc Roddam, which originated with the British version in July 1990. The show aims to discover the culinary talent of chefs of varying skill levels, through a series of cooking challenges, watched over by various acclaimed food critics and chefs. Dave Ross commissioned the show for the BBC and gave it the name; he had already produced '' Masterteam'', a quiz show hosted by Angela Rippon, and worked on the long-running ''Mastermind'', and so the name was a continuation of that. The format was revived and updated for the BBC in February 2005 by executive producers Roddam and John Silver with series producer Karen Ross. The revived format is sold internationally by Banijay. Its first international adaptation was ''MasterChef Australia'', which began in 2009. The show has since been adapted in several other countries. Christine Huyền Trân Hà (; born May 9, 1979) is an American chef, writer and TV host. She is the first blindness, blind contestant of ''MasterChef (US TV series), MasterChef'' and the winner of its MasterChef (American season 3), third season in 2012. Early and personal life Hà was born as an only child in Los Angeles County, California. Her parents were of Vietnamese people, Vietnamese origin; they emigrated from Saigon (present day Ho Chi Minh City) to the United States in 1975 after the Vietnam War. She lived in Lakewood, California and Long Beach, California as a young child before her family moved to Houston, Texas. When Hà was 14, her mother died from lung cancer. Luke Nguyen (; born 8 September 1978) is an Australian chef, restaurateur and television presenter of Vietnamese descent. Early life In 1977, Luke Nguyen's family escaped Vietnam by boat to Thailand in search of a new life. Upon arriving in Thailand, they were sent to live in a Thai refugee camp. It was in one such camp that Luke was born. A year later, Luke's family journeyed to Australia and settled in Cabramatta, Sydney. Luke attended Patrician Brothers' College, Fairfield. Luke's passion for food stemmed from his food-obsessed parents who owned the Pho Cay Du restaurant in Cabramatta for 15 years. He learned the art and fundamentals of Vietnamese cooking from his parents.
