Massachusetts Military Reservation
The Joint Base Cape Cod is a state-designated joint base created by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States War Department in 1935. Governor James Curley signed the state bill to allocate and purchase land for a military facility, and establishing a formal commission to manage this new state military property and personnel. After of land was secured on Cape Cod, the Massachusetts National Guard began erecting tents and a basic training program in the following year. Formerly the Massachusetts Military Reservation, it was renamed in 2013 to Joint Base Cape Cod by Massachusetts; although having a name similar to many federal military installations, it has no federal recognition. 1970s Otis Air National Guard Base underwent boundary changes in 1975. The United States Air Force's 102nd Intelligence Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, is a military intelligence unit located at Otis Air National Guard Base, Massachusetts. Its primary subordinate operational unit is the 101st Intelligence Squadron. The 102nd Fighter Wing was redesignated the 102nd Intelligence Wing on 6 April 2008 and was planned to reach full operational capacity in 2010. United States Coast Guard Air Stations
A Coast Guard Air Station (abbreviated as CGAS or AirSta) provides aviation support for the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard operates approximately 210 aircraft from 24 Coast Guard Air Stations in the United States. Fixed-wing aircraft, such as the HC-130 Hercules, are built for long range missions and operate from air stations. The air stations and facilities are also home to locally based MH-65D Dolphin and Sikorsky HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters and support rotor craft assigned to flight deck equipped cutters. Massachusetts Military Reservation Wind Project
The Massachusetts Military Reservation Wind Project is located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts on the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR), also known as the Joint Base Cape Cod. This Wind Project currently consists of one wind turbine, built in 2009, and two others recently completed in 2011. The first turbine was a Fuhrländer 1500/77 wind turbine with an tower and a rotor diameter. The two completed in 2011 were General Electric wind turbines. Each of these GE 1.5-77 wind turbines outputs 1.5 MW of power on top of an tall tower. Therefore, the total net capacity for the MMR Wind project is approximately 4.5 MW. The U.S. Coast Guard's Port Security Units are Deployable Specialized Forces organized for sustained expeditionary security and anti-terrorism.
