The Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) is a voluntary, non-profit bar association in Massachusetts with a headquarters on West Street in Boston, Boston's Downtown Crossing. The MBA also has a Western Massachusetts office. The purpose of the MBA is to serve the legal profession and the public by promoting the administration of justice, legal education, professional excellence, and respect for the law. The MBA represents a diverse group of attorneys, judges, and legal professionals across the commonwealth. History After the ''Massachusetts Bar Association'' was organized in 1909 as a voluntary Association, it was incorporated in 1911. Of its members in 1911, historian Lee M. Friedman (1871–1957). In 1951, the Law Society of Massachusetts merged with the Massachusetts Bar Association. Frederick William Mansfield (March 26, 1877 – November 6, 1958) was an American politician who served as the mayor of Boston, Massachusetts. Early life Mansfield was born in East Boston, Massachusetts, March 26, 1877. Mansfield was the son of Michael Read Mansfield and Catherine (McDonough) Mansfield, both of whom had immigrated from Ireland. Mansfield graduated from East Boston High School in 1894 and went on to Boston University School of Law, where he received a L.L.B. degree in 1902. Mansfield served as an apothecary in the U.S. Navy on the USS ''Vulcan'' during the Spanish–American War. After working as a pharmacist, Mansfield was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1902. Frederick Perry Fish (13 January 1855 – 6 November 1930) was an American lawyer and executive who served as president of American Telephone & Telegraph Corporation from 1901 to 1907. One of the leading patent attorneys of his age, representing such clients as Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and The Wright Brothers, by the time of his death he was believed to have appeared in more patent cases at the Supreme Court than any other lawyer.
