Mary Metcalfe
Mary Metcalfe (; born 9 November 1954) is a South African politician, educator, and academic who served in the Executive Council of Gauteng from 1994 to 2004. A member of the African National Congress, she was Gauteng's inaugural Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from 1994 to 1999 and then became MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment and Land Affairs from 1999 to 2004. She also served as Deputy Gauteng Provincial Legislature#Officers, Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2004. In 2021, she was appointed to the National Planning Commission of South Africa, National Planning Commission. Life and career Metcalfe was born on 9 November 1954 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Bulawayo (, ; ) is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland region. The city's population is disputed; the 2022 census listed it at 665,940, while the Bulawayo City Council claimed it to be about 1.2 million. Bulawayo covers an area of in the western part of the country, along the Matsheumhlope River.
