Mary Jo Wilhelm (born 1955) is a former Iowa state senator who represented the 26th District. A Democrat, she served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2017. The 2008 Iowa Senate election were held on November 4, 2008. The Senate seats for the twenty-five even-numbered districts were up for election. Senate terms are staggered such that half the membership is elected every two years, with each Senators serving a four-year term. Prior to the election, the Democrats were in the majority - marking the first time in 42 years that the Democrats had controlled both branches of the Iowa General Assembly and the Governor's Office. Mark Zieman
Mark L. Zieman (January 14, 1945–September 18, 2019) was a Republican Iowa State Senator from Iowa. He was formerly part of the leadership of the Iowa Senate. He represented the largely rural 8th district, covering Allamakee, Winneshiek, Chickasaw and Howard counties in the northeastern corner of the state. He served in the Iowa Senate 2001–2009 and was a past co-chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election to state office, he worked with various local government, Republican, and community organizations. His father was the previous state senator from his district.
