Mary Bryan (badminton)
Mary Bryan (1936 – 26 October 2017) was an Irish badminton player. During her career, she was deemed to be one of the top 5 badminton players in the world. Life Mary Bryan was born Mary O'Sullivan in Tralee, County Kerry in 1936. She attended the Dominican school, Sion Hill, before entering University College Dublin (UCD) to study architecture. After graduation, she worked for Guinness as an architect in London and Dublin. She married Eddie Bryan, and the family moved to Spain in 1974, living there until 1981. In 1995, she was received an MA in Urban and Building conservation from UCD. She was an active member of the Irish Georgian Society, serving as the Executive Secretary and Conservation Officer. She was appointed to An Bord Pleanála from 2005 to 2010, and sat on the Committee of Management of the Irish Georgian Foundation, serving as chair. Bryan died on 26 October 2017. Frank Peard
Frank Peard (1919 - 2019) was an Irish badminton player who played for Ireland internationally in the 1940s and 1950s. Early life and family Frank Peard was born in 1919. Having lived in Mountmellick, County Laois, Peard's family moved to Listowel, County Kerry in 1932. Peard attended St Michael's secondary school in Listowel. He married fellow badminton player, Susan Devlin, in 1960. They had two children, Mark and Pam. Badminton career Peard began playing badminton at around age 9 or 10. He joined the Ailesbury Badminton Club in the early 1940s, where he partnered with Ham Lambert and Mrs Eileen Goulding. Along with Raymund Egan, Dick Bell, Colin Maidment and Geoff Trapnell, Peard was a co-founder of The Knights Badminton Club in 1946. James 'Chick' Doyle
James Patrick 'Chick' Doyle was a former Irish badminton player and coach. He was coached by Frank Peard and won eleven Irish National Badminton Championships titles in men's singles and doubles in the period 1954–1964. Early and personal life Chick Doyle was born to Edward James ("Jimmy") Doyle, an employee of the Dublin Gas Company, and Josephine Doyle (née McNamara) in April 1930. He was the eldest of three siblings. His sister Ursula Doyle (born 1931), was a child performer, later actress, stage director and second wife of Jimmy O'Dea, and his brother Noel Doyle (born 1932), was also a child performer and entertainer before emigrating to Canada. In 1958 Doyle married Marie Clarke. They had four children. His daughter Elaine Doyle won a Ladies doubles Irish National Badminton Championships title in 1986.
