Mary Alice Lair
Mary Alice Lair is an American politician from Kansas. In 1982 she served as the first chairwoman of the Kansas Republican Party, and was a long time Republican national committeewoman, representing southeastern Kansas. Biography Lair served as the vice-president of the Kansas Republican Party (KSGOP) from starting in 1980. Lair was named the Kansas Republican Party#Kansas Republican Party chairmen, first chairwoman of the KSGOP for three months, from June to August 1982. After this, she again served as vice-president until 1988, when she start to serve as a Republican National Committeewoman until 2000. During this period she was a staunch supporter of both George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. The Kansas Republican Party is the state affiliate political party in Kansas of the United States Republican Party. The Kansas Republican Party was organized in May 1859. At the state level, the party is largely split between its moderate and conservative ideological factions, with the moderates often willing to work with Democrats on legislation and other matters. Because of this divide, Kansas is sometimes described as having "three-party politics." In recent years, as the national Republican Party has grown more conservative, some moderates have left the party to become Democrats. Kansas State Fair is a state fair held annually in Hutchinson, Kansas, United States. It starts the Friday following Labor Day in September, and lasts for 10 days. This fair is the largest single event in the state and attracts approximately 350,000 people annually. The 2022 Kansas gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Kansas, with primary elections taking place on August 2, 2022. Democratic Governor Laura Kelly ran for re-election to a second term. Both Kelly and Republican State Attorney General Derek Schmidt won their respective nominations with little opposition. Libertarian Seth Cordell and independent Dennis Pyle were also on the ballot. Derek Larkin Schmidt (born January 23, 1968) is an American lawyer and politician who has been the Kansas Attorney General since 2011. A Republican, Schmidt was first elected to office serving in the Kansas Senate, where he represented the 15th district from 2001 to 2011, and served as Agriculture Committee chairman and Senate majority leader. Schmidt became the state attorney general in 2011, after he defeated incumbent Democrat Stephen Six in the November 2010 elections and joined other Republican states' Attorney Generals in suing to block many Obama administration policies.
