Marvin Sands
Marvin L. Sands (1924 – August 28, 1999) was an American businessman, and the founder and CEO of Constellation Brands, a Fortune 500 beer, wine and spirits company. Early life Marvin Sands was the son of Mordecai E. Sands, who was a partner in a winery in Long Island City, Queens, New York since 1932. He was of Jewish descent. Sands earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and served as an ensign in the US Navy during World War II. Career Sands founded the Canandaigua Wine Company in 1945 at age 21. Sands tried to establish a brand, and was unsuccessful with King Solomon kosher wine and an eponymous Sands brand. In 1954 he produced a "flaming-red blend of dessert wine" called Richard's Wild Irish Rose, named after his son Richard, and this grew to become more than 90% of their sales in the 1960s. Svedka is a mid-priced brand of vodka owned by New York-based Constellation Brands. The product name is a portmanteau of the words ''Sverige'' or ''Svenska'' ("Sweden" and "Swedish" respectively in the Swedish language) and "vodka". The spirit is unaged 40% alcohol (80 proof). A bottle is produced using about of wheat and spring water. Svedka is bottled unflavored, and in citron, cherry, clementine, raspberry, vanilla, blue raspberry, and piña colada flavors. Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center
The Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC), originally the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center (FLPAC) is an outdoor concert venue in the Town of Hopewell, New York, just east of the City of Canandaigua, on the grounds of Finger Lakes Community College. The amphitheater opened in 1983, with a mix of seating under the open air roof and on the hillside lawn looking down into the facility. It is the summer home of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and is managed by ASM Global (the same firm that formerly managed the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York). Between the 2005 and 2006 seasons the amphitheater was rebuilt at a cost of about $13 million, to add 54 elevated luxury booths (seating capacity of 4 per booth), expand the general seating under the amphitheater roof from 2,600 to 5,000, and install new state of the art house lighting and sound systems. Temple B'rith Kodesh is a Reform synagogue in Rochester, New York. It is the oldest synagogue and the largest Reform congregation in the greater Rochester area. HistoryTemple B'rith Kodeshwas founded in 1848 as an Orthodox congregation with 12 members. By 1894 the congregation had grown to over 250 members and a building was purchased in downtown Rochester. During this period, a gradual change from Orthodoxy to Classical Reform began. In 1975, Gates of Prayer replaced The Union Prayer Book, and both English and Hebrew were used in the services. In 1996, a gender sensitive edition of Gates of Prayer was adopted for use.
