Ma'ruf () is an Islamic term. "The term that best helps us to understand the nature of Qurʾān ethical prescriptions is maʿrūf, a word that appears repeatedly (in slightly varying forms) in the Qurʾān" and used 38 times in the Quran. The word is most often found in the Qur'anic exhortation: "''Amr bil Ma'ruf wa Nahy an al Munkar''", often translated as " Enjoin the good and forbid the wrong". Maʿrūf and munkar are widely discussed because of the duties the Quran imposes on believers through these concepts. Ma'ruf bin Abdul Ghani al-Rusafi (; 1875 – 16 March 1945) was an Iraqi poet, educationist and literary scholar. A political skeptic, al-Rusafi is regarded as a humanist, a social justice poet, and one of Iraq's national poets. However, he is considered by many as a controversial figure in modern Iraqi literature due to his advocacy of freedom and opposition to imperialism. Maruf Khaznadar
Maruf Khaznadar or Marif Xeznedar (‎; 1930–2010), is a contemporary Kurdish people, Kurdish academic and writer. He was born in Arbil, Erbil and received early education in Erbil and Kirkuk. He attended the College of Literature at the University of Baghdad and received his bachelor's degree in Arabic language and literature in 1957. From 1957 to 1959, he was working as a high school teacher in Kirkuk. In 1960, he was awarded a bursary to continue his studies at the Oriental Institute of Soviet Academy of Sciences in Leningrad and received his PhD in Kurdish literature in 1963. From 1963 to 1968, he worked as research associate at the same institute.
