History During the Swedish domestic war regarding who was to be king, an important battle took place here 29 August 1599. Troops under Axel Kurck, supporting king Sigismund were defeated by troops supported duke Karl, soon to be king Karl IX. Karl more or less already ruled Sweden and what is Finland nowadays, and Sigismund were based in Poland. There is a memorial, erected 1934, to be seen in Marttila. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . ''Tl'' in the name means the former province of Turku and Pori (). It was attached to the name to distinguish Koski Tl from another municipality named ''Koski'', Koski Hl (''Hl'' for the former province of Häme, ). Lauri Heikkilä
Lauri Juho Antti Heikkilä (24 June 1957 – 25 March 2024) was a Finnish politician, representing the Finns Party. He was elected to the Parliament of Finland in April 2011. He was a senior researcher and a lecturer of microelectronics at the University of Turku The University of Turku (, shortened ''UTU'') is a multidisciplinary public university with eight faculties located in the city of Turku in southwestern Finland. The university also has campuses in Rauma and Pori and research stations in Kevo ..., but he also did farming. In the 2015 parliamentary election, Heikkilä got 3,658 votes and was not re-elected. From 1996 to 2011 Heikkilä was much involved in the making of Finns Party platforms. Heikkilä died of a sudden illness during a conference trip in Strasbourg, on 25 March 2024, at the age of 66. Hämeen Härkätie
Hämeen Härkätie (Oxen Road of Tavastia) is an ancient road in Finland, connecting Turku in Finland Proper to Hämeenlinna in Tavastia Proper. The 162 kilometers long road has been in use at the latest in the 9th century and in many parts it has been in use since. Today, fulfills the same purpose as the connection between Turku and Hämeenlinna, but it follows the original route only near Turku. History The Oxen Road links two major Iron Age settlement areas in Finland, the valley of the Aurajoki river and the Lake Vanaja region of Häme. Vanaja region was one of the main areas in Finland in prehistoric times to acquire articles for export, such as furs and hides. Charles IX Of Sweden
Charles IX, also Carl (; 4 October 1550 – 30 October 1611), reigned as King of Sweden from 1604 until his death. He was the youngest son of King Gustav I () and of his second wife, Margaret Leijonhufvud, the brother of King Eric XIV and of King John III, and the uncle of Sigismund, who became king both of Sweden and of Poland. Sigismund I the Old (, ; 1 January 1467 – 1 April 1548) was List of Polish monarchs, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1506 until his death in 1548. Axel Jönsson Kurck (also known as Akseli Kurki in Finnish), born 1555, died 30 March 1630 in Nakkila) was a colonel in the Swedish army and nobleman. He was a member of the Kurki of Laukko family. Since 1582 Kurck was the lord of Koporye fortress in Ingria and later served as a judge in the Finnish hundreds of Upper Satakunta and Vehmaa.
