Martin Vaughn-James
Martin Vaughn-James (December 5, 1943 in Bristol – July 3, 2009 in Provence) was a cartoonist, painter, and illustrator. After spending time in London, Toronto, Tokyo and Paris, he lived for a long time in Brussels. He is best known for a series of graphic novels he published while living in Canada in the 1970s: ''Elephant'' (1970), ''The Projector'' (1971), ''The Park'' (1972) and ''The Cage'' (1975). ''The Cage'' is perhaps his best known work, the subject of critical study, including a monograph by French critic Thierry Groensteen, ''La construction de la cage'' (Impressions Nouvelles, 2002), and has been reprinted in several editions in French and English. From the mid-1980s, Vaughn-James devoted himself primarily to painting, exhibiting regularly in France, Belgium and Germany. Bristol
Bristol () is a city, ceremonial county and unitary authority in England. Benoît Peeters (; born 1956) is a French comics writer, novelist, and comics studies scholar. Biography After a degree in Philosophy at Université de Paris I, Peeters prepared his Master's at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS‚ Paris) under the direction of Roland Barthes. He holds a '' habilitation à diriger les recherches'' (HDR), i.e. a supplementary PhD enabling him to supervise the work of PhD candidates (Université de Paris I, 2007). He published his first novel, ''Omnibus'', by Les Éditions de Minuit in 1976, followed by his second, ''La Bibliothèque de Villers'', Robert Laffont, 1980. Gregory Gallant (born September 16, 1962), better known by his pen name Seth, is a Canadian cartoonist. He is best known for his series ''Palookaville'' and his mock-autobiographical graphic novel '' It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken'' (1996). Seth draws in a style influenced by the classic cartoonists of ''The New Yorker''. His work is highly nostalgic, especially for the early-to-mid-20th Century period, and of Southern Ontario. His work also shows a great depth and breadth of knowledge of the history of comics and cartooning.
