Martin Roberts (presenter)
Martin Leyland Roberts (born 20 July 1963) is an English television presenter, property expert, investor, entrepreneur and author. He presents the BBC One property auction series ''Homes Under the Hammer'' with co-presenters Martel Maxwell (since 2017) and Dion Dublin, although his co-presenter for many years was Lucy Alexander. He also hosts the Talkradio show "Home Rule with Martin Roberts", where he chats about property. Early life and career Born in Warrington, Cheshire, Roberts was brought up in Stockton Heath, a suburb of Warrington. Roberts began his career in the late 1980s at BBC Radio Manchester. Roberts' grandfather was a well known organist at various Warrington chapels. He attended Appleton Hall Grammar School then studied Electronic Engineering at the University of Bradford 1983–86 and was a DJ on Ramair, the university's radio station. Rhondda Tunnel
The Rhondda Tunnel is an abandoned railway tunnel that runs between the Rhondda and the Afan Valleys in South Wales. It is long, making it the third longest railway tunnel in Wales, and the seventeenth longest in the United Kingdom. The tunnel, constructed by the Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway, was engineered by Sydney William Yockney. In June 1885, construction commenced from Blaencwm in the Rhondda Valley and Blaengwynfi in the Afan Valley. Progress slowed because of manpower shortages and water seepage. Progress was restored when the original contractor, William Jones, was replaced by Lucas and Aird, who brought in more men. Rhondda , or the Rhondda Valley ( ), is a former coal mining, coalmining area in South Wales, historically in the county of Glamorgan. It takes its name from the River Rhondda, and embraces two valleys – the larger Rhondda Fawr valley (, 'large') and the smaller Rhondda Fach valley (, 'small') – so that the singular "Rhondda Valley" and the plural are both commonly used. Blaencwm () is a village in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, lying at the head the Rhondda Fawr valley.
