Martin Lukato
Martin Lukato Lukato (born 2 December 1960) is a Namibian politician, headman and farmer, currently serving as a legislator in the 8th National Assembly of Namibia since 20 March 2025. He has been a leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) since 2004. Life and career Lukato was born at Anda village in Linyanti Constituency of Zambezi Region The Zambezi Region, known as the Caprivi Region until 2013, is one of Namibia's fourteen regions, situated in the north-eastern part of the country along the Zambezi River. National Assembly (Namibia)
The National Assembly is the lower chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. Its laws must be approved by the National Council, the upper house. Since 2014, it has a total of 104 members. 96 members are directly elected through a system of closed list proportional representation and serve five-year terms. Eight additional members are appointed by the President. Since March 2025, SWAPO member Saara Kuugongelwa has been the Speaker of the National Assembly. Namibia's National Assembly emerged on Independence Day on 21 March 1990 from the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, following the elections of November 1989. National Democratic Party (Namibia)
The National Democratic Party (NDP) is a political party in Namibia. It was formed in 1973 as the ''Ovamboland Independence Party'' (''OIP'') by Silas Ipumbu. It took the name NDP to contest the elections to the Ovambo Legislative Assembly, by then under the leadership of Cornelius Tuhafeni Ndjoba. The party's base was amongst the Ovambo people. The party is currently under the leadership of Mr. Martin Lukato . NDP won one seat in the National Assembly, sending Lukato to parliament, in the National Assembly election of 2024. After being dormant for three decades the NDP contested in the 2015 local authority elections in the Zambezi Region but failed to gain a seat. In 2019 it contested the national assembly election and gathered 4,559 votes (0.6%), not enough to gain a seat in parliament. Linyanti Constituency is located in Namibia's Zambezi Region. The constituency derives its name from the Linyanti River. It has a population of 10,425 and covers an area of 1,804 square kilometres, resulting in a population density of approximately 5.78 people per square kilometre. The Zambezi Region, known as the Caprivi Region until 2013, is one of Namibia's fourteen regions, situated in the north-eastern part of the country along the Zambezi River.
