Martin Leman
Martin Leman (born 1934) is an English artist who gained recognition for his paintings of cats. Since 1969 his works have been published in a number of books and international exhibitions. Early life Martin attended art school in Worthing and the Central School of Art and Design in Holborn. He also spent time in Egypt on National Service duties. Career Before starting his painting career in 1969 he worked as a graphic designer and taught at various institutions across London. His works on the subject of cats have appeared in over 20 books. He was elected as a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2007 and is also a member of the Royal Watercolour Society. Cats
The cat (''Felis catus'') is a domestic species of small carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and is commonly referred to as the domestic cat or house cat to distinguish it from the wild members of the family. Worthing
Worthing () is a seaside town in West Sussex, England, at the foot of the South Downs, west of Brighton, and east of Chichester. Royal Society Of British Artists
The Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) is a British art body established in 1823 as the Society of British Artists, as an alternative to the Royal Academy. History The RBA commenced with twenty-seven members, and took until 1876 to reach fifty. Artists wishing to resign were required to give three months' notice and pay a fine of £100. The RBA's first two exhibitions were held in 1824, with one or two exhibitions held annually thereafter. The RBA currently has 115 elected members who participate in an annual exhibition currently held at the Mall Galleries in London. The Society's previous gallery was a building designed by John Nash in Suffolk Street. Queen Victoria granted the Society the Royal Charter in 1887.
