Martin Hermannsson
Martin Hermannsson (born 16 September 1994) is an Icelandic professional basketball player for Valencia of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. He also internationally represents the Icelandic national basketball team, with which he participated in the EuroBasket 2015 and EuroBasket 2017. In 2019, Martin was named the Icelandic Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Playing career Martin started his senior team career with KR at the age of 15. With KR, he went on to win the Icelandic championship twice, in 2011 and 2014. In 2014 he was named the Domestic Player of the Year, the Playoffs MVP and the Young Player of the Year while also being selected to the Domestic All-First Team. On 17 May 2017, he was selected for the LNB Pro B All-First Team and was the runner-up to the Most Valuable Player award. The LNB Pro B, commonly known as Pro B, is the 2nd-tier level men's professional basketball league in France. It is the second division of the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB), which has organized the league since the year 1987. The regular season champion and the winner of the promotion playoffs from each Pro B season are promoted to the top-tier level LNB Pro A, replaced by the bottom two teams in Pro A. EuroBasket 2017
EuroBasket 2017 was the 40th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe and held between 31 August and 17 September 2017. Beginning from 2017, the continental championships take place every four years with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Like the previous edition, the tournament was co-hosted by four countries. Games in the group stage were held in Turkey, Finland, Israel and Romania. The knock-out phase was played in Istanbul, Turkey. Slovenia won their first-ever tournament after defeating Serbia 93–85 in the final. Spain won the bronze medal by beating Russia with the same result. EuroBasket 2015 was the 39th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe. It was co-hosted by Croatia, France, Germany, and Latvia, making it the first EuroBasket held in more than one country. It started on 5 September and ended on 20 September 2015. The top two teams ( and ) qualified to the Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament, 2016 Summer Olympics. The next five teams (, , , and the ) advanced to the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Men, World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. and later qualified due to Serbia and Italy hosting two of the Olympic qualifying tournaments while also qualified as an invitee. Iceland Men's National Basketball Team
The Iceland men's national basketball team ( is, Íslenska karlalandsliðið í körfubolta) represents Iceland in international basketball tournaments. The team is controlled by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Iceland has qualified for the EuroBasket twice, with the national team making their first ever appearance in 2015. They also participate at smaller European tournaments, such as the Games of the Small States of Europe. Although Iceland has yet to make their debut entrance on to the global stage at the FIBA World Cup. The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event, launched by the Republic of San Marino, organized by and featuring the National Olympic Committees of nine European small states since 1985. The Games are held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competition in nine Summer Olympic sports. Member countries The games are organized by the members of the European Olympic Committees (EOC). Basketball Bundesliga-Pokal, commonly known as the BBL-Pokal, is the annual national basketball cup competition in Germany. Since 2009, the title has been awarded to the winner of a tournament competition between top clubs of each Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) season. History and format The competition was founded in 1966, by the German Basketball Federation. The first final of the German Basketball Cup took place on 11 June 1967, in Oberhausen.
