Martin H. Herzog
Martin H. Herzog (September 13, 1878 – May 24, 1971) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1939 to 1940. He was a member of the Wisconsin Progressive Party. Born in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, Herzog went to Patterson Commercial College in Racine, Wisconsin and was a farmer. He served on the Mount Pleasant town board and was the chairman. He also served as town treasurer. He then moved to Sturtevant, Wisconsin and served on the village board and was president. Herzog served on the Racine County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors and was Racine County sheriff. The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives.
