''Martianoids'' is a ZX Spectrum video game developed by Ultimate Play the Game and released in 1987. Gameplay Although it uses isometric projection, as with Ultimate's second-generation isometric releases such as ''Nightshade'' and ''Gunfright'', ''Martianoids'' used a scrolling display rather than the flip-screen of earlier titles such as '' Knight Lore'' and ''Alien 8''. As with the contemporary Ultimate title ''Bubbler'', ''Martianoids'' was not written by the partnership of Tim Stamper and Chris Stamper. It was instead programmed by a team at U.S. Gold U.S. Gold Limited was a British video game publisher based in Witton, Birmingham, England. Ashby Computers and Graphics Limited, trading as Ultimate Play the Game, was a British video game developer and publisher, founded in 1982, by ex- arcade game developers Tim and Chris Stamper. Ultimate released a series of successful games for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro, MSX and Commodore 64 computers from 1983 until 1987. Bubbler (video Game)
''Bubbler'' is a ZX Spectrum video game developed and published by Ultimate Play the Game in 1987. It was Ultimate's final release for 8-bit home computers before evolving into Rare. The game is an isometric platform game in the style of ''Marble Madness'' (1984). Development A Commodore 64 version was outsourced to Lynsoft but the release was cancelled as Ultimate thought the game was running too slowly. Reception ''Crash'' magazine reviewer Ricky disliked the impreciseness of the controls. ''Sinclair User'' were more impressed by the game; they did not consider it to be one of Ultimate's most original game or particularly well presented but thought it was very addictive. It was awarded a 5 star rating. Amstrad was a British electronics company, founded in 1968 by Alan Sugar at the age of 21. The name is a contraction of Alan Michael Sugar Trading. Chris Stamper
Brothers Tim and Chris Stamper are British entrepreneurs who founded the video game companies Ultimate Play the Game and Rare. They first worked together on arcade conversion kits, which were licensed to companies, but later became developers for the ZX Spectrum home computer in the early 1980s. Chris programmed the games, while Tim designed the graphics. They found success as Ultimate with games including ''Jetpac'' and '' Knight Lore''. After reverse engineering the Nintendo Entertainment System and deciding to shift their focus to console development, the brothers founded Rare in the mid-1980s. They became Nintendo's first major Western developer, for whom they developed licensed games and ports.
