Marti-Colon Cemetery
Marti-Colon Cemetery is a historic cemetery in West Tampa, maintained and partially owned by the City of Tampa. It currently lies south of Columbus Drive, though for the first sixty years of the cemetery's life, it extended north of Columbus. Marti-Colon has come into the news several times since its inception in the late 19th century, with reports of unscrupulous practices by owners and a lack of oversight by government officials. History In 1895, the City of West Tampa purchased land to be used as a city-run cemetery to serve the community. It was the final resting place of prominent West Tampans such as the second mayor of West Tampa, Francisco Milian. At some point, the cemetery moved into private hands, being owned and operated by J. L. West Tampa is one of the oldest neighborhoods within the city limits of Tampa, Florida, Tampa, Florida, United States. Columbus Drive (Tampa)
Columbus Drive is a major road in Tampa, Florida, from Florida State Road 589, State Road 589 on its west side east through West Tampa. It was originally known as Michigan Avenue and was renamed Columbus Drive in 1933. On its west end, International Plaza and Bay Street, International Plaza, an upscale mall, and several upscale restaurants are located off Columbus Drive on Jim Walter Boulevard, named in 2003 for Jim Walter. East on Columbus there are several Latin markets and eateries including La Teresita and Arco Iris. WFLA (970 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Tampa, Florida, and serving the Tampa Bay media market. The station airs a news/talk format and is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station's studios and offices are on Gandy Boulevard in South Tampa. WFLA broadcasts by day at 25,000 watts, reducing power to 11,000 watts at night.
