Marthe Gosteli
Marthe Gosteli (22 December 1917 – 7 April 2017) was a Swiss suffrage activist and archivist. For thirty years, she led the fight for women's right to vote in Switzerland and then focused her attention on preserving the history of Swiss women. Creating an archive of women's biographies and history, Gosteli's work was recognized by many honours and awards, including the 2011 Swiss Human Rights Award. Biography Marthe Gosteli was born on 22 December 1917 in Worblaufen, (now known as Ittigen) Switzerland to Johanna Ida (née Salzmann) and Ernst Gosteli. She completed commercial training and took language courses in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and in London. Gosteli's father died, leaving his wife in charge of the estate. With the help of her daughters, the women managed to hold on to and maintain the family farm, but Gosteli recognized how inequality affected them and joined the feminist movement in 1940. Worblaufen
Ittigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipality was formed in 1983 when it and Ostermundigen were separated from territory once part of Bolligen. History Its placename is derived from the Alemannic German "at the people of the Ito", and first appeared in print in 1318 as ''Yttigen''. In 1326 it was mentioned as ''villa de Ittigen''. Traces of prehistoric settlements have been found at Worblaufen ( La Tene vessel with cremated remains, Roman coins and Early Medieval graves), in the Papiermühle neighborhood (5th or 6th century Early Medieval cemetery with about 30 graves), Neuhaus (Early Medieval graves) and in Wydacker (Seax). A woman is an adult female human. Before adulthood, a female child or adolescent is referred to as a girl. Typically, women are of the female sex and inherit a pair of X chromosomes, one from each parent, and women with functional uteruses are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause. ''EMMA'' is a German feminist magazine. Its print edition is published every two months in Cologne, Germany. History and profile The first issue of ''EMMA'' was published on 26 January 1977. The founder of the magazine was Alice Schwarzer, who is still publisher and editor-in-chief. History and profile ''Berner Zeitung'' was first issued on 3 January 1979.
