Marshall Riddle
Marshall Lewis "Jit" Riddle (April 22, 1918 – September 2, 1988) was an American baseball infielder in the Negro leagues. He played from 1937 to 1943, playing mostly with the St. Louis Stars . Career Riddle made his Negro American League debut in 1937 for the St. Louis Stars. The following year, he began a four-year stint with the Indianapolis ABCs/St. Louis Stars/St. Louis–New Orleans Stars. Riddle was selected to the East-West All-Star Game in 1939 and 1940. His final Negro league season came in 1943 with the Cleveland Buckeyes. Infielder
An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The team playing in the field tries to prevent runs by catching the ball before it hits the ground, by tagging runners with the ball while they are not touching a base, or by throwing the ball to first base before the batter who hit the ball can run from home plate to first base. Indianapolis ABCs (1938) Players
The Indianapolis ABCs were a Negro league baseball team that played both as an independent club and as a charter member of the first Negro National League (NNL). They claimed the western championship of black baseball in 1915 and 1916, and finished second in the 1922 NNL. Among their best players were Baseball Hall of Fame members Oscar Charleston, Biz Mackey, and Ben Taylor. Founding Originally organized by the American Brewing Company (thus "A.B.C.s") in the early 20th century, the team was managed by Ran Butler in 1911. It was then purchased by Thomas Bowser, a white bail bondsman, in 1912. Two years later, C. I. Provincial League (baseball)
The Provincial League, sometimes known as the Quebec Provincial League, was a minor league baseball league based in the Canadian province of Quebec. It went through a number of incarnations during the 20th century, spending time as both an independent baseball league (1922–23, 1935–1939, 1948–49, and 1958–1971) and as a member of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (1924, 1940, and 1950–1955). It is notable as a successful independent league at a time when few existed, and was a haven for black and indigenous players excluded from organized baseball. Trois-Rivières Royals
The baseball team in Trois-Rivières, Quebec has gone through many incarnations. They began as the Trois-Rivières Renards and played in the Quebec Provincial League and the original Canadian–American League from 1940–1942 when they were shut down due to World War II. The team returned in 1946 as the Trois-Rivières Royals, an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers through 1950. Baseball
Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat.
