Marshall Naify
Marshall Naify (March 23, 1920 – April 19, 2000) was a motion picture and media tycoon who was a long-term chairman of the board of United Artists and later became founder and co-chairman of the board of Todd-AO, the largest independent post-production sound studio in the United States which worked on ''Apollo 13'' and other major films. Biography Marshall Naify worked in the theater business nearly all his life. Marshall Naify and his brother Robert Naify were members of The Forbes 400 beginning in 1987 with an estimated combined net worth of $4.3 billion. They merged the family's theater chain with United Artists Theater Circuit and eventually became the majority shareholders. They sold that company in 1986 to John Malone's Telecommunications Inc. Bertrando
Bertrando (February 18, 1989 – March 27, 2014) was an American Thoroughbred Champion racehorse. A tall colt that grew to 16 hands 2 inches, Bertrando was bred by Ed Nahem at River Edge Farm in Buellton, California. He was sired by Skywalker, that won the 1986 Breeders' Cup Classic. Nahem began racing Bertrando in a three-way partnership with Marshall Naify's 505 Farms of Lexington, Kentucky, and Gus Headley, son of the horse's trainer, Bruce Headley. En route to being voted California Champion two-year-old colt, Bertrando won the important Del Mar Futurity and the Grade I Norfolk Stakes, one of the final preparatory races for two-year-olds going into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Kenneth McPeek
Kenneth G. McPeek (born August 2, 1962) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer and bloodstock agent. McPeek gained prominence in 2024 by winning the 150th Kentucky Derby in a three-horse photo finish with the 18:1 underdog Mystik Dan and the Kentucky Oaks with Thorpedo Anna. This achievement marked the first time since 1952 that a trainer swept both prestigious races in the same year, making McPeek the third trainer in history to achieve this feat. McPeek expressed that his proudest accomplishment is achieving this success with what he calls "working class horses." The 2024 Derby win also made McPeek one of only five living trainers who have won all three Triple Crown races. The title of American Champion Older Dirt Male Horse is an American Thoroughbred horse racing honor awarded annually to a stallion or gelding, four years old and up, for performances on dirt and main track racing surfaces. In 1971, it became part of the Eclipse Awards program as the award for Champion Older Male Horse. The award originated in 1936 when the ''Daily Racing Form'' (DRF) began naming an annual champion. Graded Stakes Race
A graded stakes race is a thoroughbred horse race in the United States that meets the criteria of the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). A specific grade level (I, II, III or listed) is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. In Canada, a similar grading system is maintained by the Jockey Club of Canada. Graded stakes races are similar to Group races in Europe but the grading is more dynamic in North America. A high grading can also be used by racetracks to promote the race in question. When determining Eclipse Award winners, racing journalists will consider the number and grade of a horse's stakes wins during the year. Manistique (foaled 1995 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Manistique won eleven races all in California.
