Marshall Islands National Futsal Team
The Marshall Islands national futsal team represents the Marshall Islands during international futsal competitions. It was formed in 2024 and is controlled by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation. History In 2023, plans for the first ever international fixture for the Marshall Islands were unveiled, with a goal set for 2024. The first futsal tournaments were held on the islands in late 2023 and 2024, with the launch of the Marshall Islands Futsal League and the Ratak Cup. The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation is the governing body of soccer in the Marshall Islands. Marshall Islands is not a member of its regional body, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), or FIFA, but is working on becoming one. The federation is working towards being recognized by the Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee. ECC Sports Stadium
ECC Sports Stadium is an indoor sports arena in Majuro, Marshall Islands. The stadium's capacity is around 2,000. Named after the Educational Cultural Center, it is used principally for basketball, volleyball, and futsal matches. Stadium has 3 pinned arch roof spanning 60m. The ECC was forced to close down after part of the roof collapsed in June 2011 because of a termite infestation. However, in 2024 the complete refurbishment of the facility was completed as the arena served as a venue for the 2024 Micronesian Games. Lloyd Owers is a UEFA-licensed football coach and the current technical director for the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation (MISF), which he has held since December 2022. He previously served in various coaching roles in Canada, Sweden, and the United States. Career Owers began his football career playing semi-professionally in England until he was 24, also working as a coach since he was 16. He stopped playing to focus on the coaching side of the game, he worked within various levels of coaching. 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup
The 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup was an international futsal tournament organized by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation, and was hosted in Majuro from 22 to 24 July 2024. Six teams took part in the tournament. The tournament was originally announced as the Men's Futsal Series, to be played against Micronesia, but after Kiribati's participation was announced, the name was officially changed to the Outrigger Challenge Cup. The Marshall Islands played its first-ever international of any football code during the tournament, while Micronesia fielded its first-ever national futsal side. It was formed in 2024 under the auspices of the Federated States of Micronesia Football Association. History In 2023, local officials organized the 2023 Micronesian Futsal Cup as the country's first-ever futsal championship. Organizers hoped that introducing the sport to the nation would help reignite its quest for FIFA recognition. Each of the nation's states, Yap, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Chuuk, sent a representative team to the tournament. The Kiribati national futsal team represents Kiribati in international futsal. The team is an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).
