MarsCon in Virginia Beach, Virginia is a mid-sized regional science fiction convention founded in 1990. The convention provides a relaxed environment for people who enjoy science fiction to meet new friends and talk about their interests. The convention has been described as "the largest and longest-running science fiction/fantasy convention in the Tidewater area." History The history of MarsCon begins with an earlier convention known as ''Sci-Con'', a well established, general science fiction convention in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 1990 the people who worked every year to bring Sci-Con together held a low key '' relaxicon'' or "relaxing convention" for its members. David Weber
David Mark Weber (born October 24, 1952) is an American science fiction and fantasy author. He has written several science-fiction and fantasy books series, the best known of which is the Honor Harrington science-fiction series. His first novel, which he worked on with Steve White, sold in 1989 to Baen Books. Baen remains Weber's major publisher. Writing career Born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 24, 1952, Weber began writing while in fifth grade. Some of Weber's first jobs within the writing/advertising world began after high school when he worked as copywriter, typesetter, proofreader, and paste-up artist. He later earned an undergraduate degree from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina and a M.A. in history from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Andrew Fox is an American author from New Orleans. He has written three comic novels, ''Fat White Vampire Blues, Bride of the Fat White Vampire,'' and '' Fat White Vampire Otaku.'' These novels feature Jules Duchon, a morbidly obese vampire who resides in New Orleans and works as a taxi driver. The humor from the books is derived primarily from the embarrassing or dangerous predicaments that are at odds with the dignified, suave image one normally associates with vampires such as Dracula. In addition, Fox presents a well-thought out set of continuity rules that explain traditional vampire powers (e.g. the need for a vampire's mass to go somewhere when transforming into a form smaller than the original form).
