The San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk is a hotel located in San Antonio, Texas, USA. At a tip height of 546 feet (166 meters), the 38-floor hotel is List of tallest buildings in San Antonio, the tallest building in San Antonio and second tallest structure in the city (the Tower of the Americas is taller). It is also the tallest hotel in Texas outside of Dallas. Its roof height, however, is 441 feet (134 meters), 3 feet shorter than the Weston Centre (San Antonio), Weston Centre. The hotel, which was completed in 1988, is located across the Riverwalk from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and overlooks the Rivercenter lagoon, an expansion branch of the San Antonio River Walk. Mission Concepcion
Franciscan Friars established Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña (also Mission Concepción) in 1711 as Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de los Hainais in East Texas. The mission was by the Domingo Ramón- St. Denis expedition and was originally meant to be a base for converting the Hasinai to Catholicism and teaching them what they needed to know to become Spanish citizens. The friars moved the mission in 1731 to San Antonio. After its relocation most of the people in the mission were Pajalats who spoke a Coahuiltecan language. Catholic Mass is still held at the mission every Sunday. On October 28, 1835, Mexican troops under Colonel Domingo de Ugartechea and Texian insurgents led by James Bowie and James Fannin fought the ''Battle of Concepción'' here. Historian J.R. Tower Life Building (formerly Smith-Young Tower, Pan-American Tower, and Transit Tower) is a 31-story building and a historical landmark in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA.
