Jacky Marmon
John Marmon, known as Jacky Marmon (1798-1800?–1880), was an Australian sailor, who became one of the first Europeans to live as a Pākehā Māori. His occupations included interpreter, shopkeeper, sawyer, carpenter and soldier. Early life Marmon was born in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of a convict stonemason of Irish descent. If Marmon's own account is to be believed, he first went to sea on a whaling vessel at 5 years of age, visiting Bay of Islands New Zealand in 1805 before returning to Sydney. He went to sea again at the age of 11, and sailed in merchant vessels throughout the Pacific and between the Australian colonies. In 1823 he was convicted of theft and sentenced to serve two years on government ships. From one of these he escaped while it was berthed in the north of New Zealand. Susie Rayos Marmon
Susie Rayos Marmon (née Dawa-Go-Mai-Tsa, 1877–1988) was an American educator, oral historian, and storyteller, and supercentenarian who was committed to the education of children at Laguna and Isleta Pueblos, New Mexico, United States. She received accolades from New Mexico Governor Garrey Carruthers, Senator Jeff Bingaman, Senator Pete Domenici, and President Ronald Reagan. Early life and education Marmon was born in Paguate, New Mexico, a village on the Laguna Pueblo. She attended Albuquerque Mission School before leaving home for Carlisle, Pennsylvania to attend the Carlisle Indian School. After graduating Carlisle Indian School in 1903, Marmon enrolled at Dickinson College. Then, she completed the teacher's training course at Bloomsburg State Normal School in 1906. She was the first Laguna woman to graduate from a white college. Lee Marmon
Leland Howard Marmon (September 20, 1925 – March 31, 2021) was a Native American photographer and author. Marmon is known for his black-and-white portraits of tribal elders. Marmon's works have appeared in galleries, books, and magazines, including ''The New York Times'', ''The Saturday Evening Post'', and ''Time''. His works were also featured in the Peabody Award-winning PBS series, "Surviving Columbus". A collection of Marmon's best-known works are featured in his award-winning 2004 book, "The Pueblo Imagination", which he wrote in collaboration with poets Joy Harjo and Simon Ortiz, and his oldest daughter, novelist Leslie Marmon Silko. Neale Marmon
Neale Gordon Marmon (born 21 April 1961) is an English former footballer who spent the majority of his career in Germany. He was most recently the interim manager of Yeovil Town. Marmon, son of an officer in the British Army, grew up partly in Germany. Apart from football, Marmon also won a state swimming championship in Lower Saxony, and was an outstanding basketballer. He became the central figure of FC Homburg's shock 4–2 away cup win over Bayern Munich in August 1991. Nordyke Marmon & Company was an American manufacturer of flour mills and located in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Early history The company began in 1851 as the Nordyke, Ham & Company started in the manufacture of milling machinery in a small shop in Richmond, Indiana. Previously, Ellis Nordyke, a prominent millwright, had been making hand made milling equipment himself in Richmond. Buhr stones from France were imported for grinding grains. In 1858, Addison H. Nordyke and his father, Ellison, formed a partnership in to manufacture and build flour mills. The company was named E. & A. H. Nordyke with a small building just behind Ellis Nordyke's home serving as the first plant. This business continued until 1866 when Daniel W. Marmon Motor Car Company was an American Luxury automobile manufacturer founded by Howard Carpenter Marmon and owned by Nordyke Marmon & Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., and active from 1902 to 1933. It was established in 1902 but not incorporated as the successor of Nordyke Marmon & Company until 1926. In 1933 it was succeeded by Marmon-Herrington, and in 1964 the Marmon brand name was sold to the Marmon Motor Company of Denton, Texas. Marmon-Herrington became the Marmon Group of Chicago, in 1964. The Marmon-Herrington Company, Inc. is an American manufacturer of axles and transfer cases for trucks and other vehicles. Earlier, the company built military vehicles and some tanks during World War II, and until the late 1950s or early 1960s was a manufacturer of trucks and trolley buses.
