Markus Krause-Traudes (born 27 December 1957) is a '' Flottillenadmiral'' ( one-star admiral) of the German Navy, who has served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, at the Multinational Joint Headquarters Ulm since April 2012. Military career Education and early career Krause-Traudes joined the Navy in 1976 and successfully completed training as an officer. From August 1980 to June 1983, he studied Naval Weapons Engineering at the Royal Naval Engineering College HMS Thunderer in Manadon, Plymouth, United Kingdom, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal.
