Mark Winters
Mark Winters (born 29 December 1971) is a former boxer from Northern Ireland. He was British light welterweight champion between 1997 and 1998. Career Born in Antrim, Winters first had success as an amateur, winning the Irish National senior lightweight title in 1993, fighting at the 1993 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Tampere, and winning a silver medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Winters made his professional debut in March 1995 with a win over Trevor Smith. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) is the governing body of professional boxing in the United Kingdom. History The British Boxing Board of Control was formed in 1929 from the old National Sporting Club and is headquartered in Cardiff. Until 1948, it had a colour bar in effect by means of its Rule 24, which stated that title contestants "must have two white parents". Wembley Conference Centre was a conference centre in Wembley Park, London, England, that existed from 1977 to 2006, located next to Wembley Arena. History In the later 1970s, modern multi-purpose halls began opening in British towns and cities.
