Mark Willemse
Mark Willemse (born 26 August 1964) is a South African politician serving as the Deputy Mayor of the Knysna Local Municipality since 2021. He is the former Executive Mayor of Knysna, and former Ward Councillor for Ward 9. Having taken office in June 2018 after voting with the ANC to unseat Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies, he lost the confidence of his caucus and was dismissed in October 2019. His application to court to overturn his dismissal was dismissed, with costs, in March 2020. Willemse was previously Speaker of the Eden District Municipality. Early life and career Mark Sydney Willemse was born on 26 August 1964 in Cape Town. Willemse matriculated from the Oude Molen Technical High School, Oude Molen Technical School in 1982. He has four years of military service. He later married Dalene in 1990, and they have three children together. He obtained diplomas in Business and Marketing from the Wits Business School. Knysna Local Municipality
Knysna Local Municipality ( af, Knysna Munisipaliteit; xh, uMasipala wase Knysna) is a municipality part of Garden Route District Municipality located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. the population is 68,659. Its municipal code is WC048. Geography The municipality covers an area of between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua Mountains around the town of Knysna. It abuts on the George Municipality to the north and west, and on the Bitou Municipality to the east. According to the 2011 census the municipality has a population of 68,659 people in 21,893 households. Of this population, 40.9% describe themselves as "Coloured", 36.1% as " Black African", and 21.0% as " White". The first language of 51.2% of the population is Afrikaans, while 28.4% speak Xhosa and 15.4% speak English. Rand Afrikaans University
The Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) was a prominent South African institution of higher education and research that served the greater Johannesburg area and surroundings from 1967 to 2004. It has since merged with the Technikon Witwatersrand and two campuses of Vista University to form the University of Johannesburg. Origins On 5 November 1968, 468 delegates at a conference unanimously accepted a motion to establish an Afrikaans University. An act of Parliament was promulgated on 4 August 1965 to establish such a university in Johannesburg. Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) was founded as an Afrikaans language university in 1967 with just over 700 registered students. The first campus was situated in a brewery in Braamfontein. The RAU was officially opened on 24 February 1968. 2021 South African Municipal Elections
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. Bonginkosi Success Madikizela (born 15 March 1975) is a South African politician. Born in Port Shepstone, in the province of Natal, Madikizela soon moved to Khayelitsha and became politically active in the area. He was a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and United Democratic Movement (UDM), prior to joining the Democratic Alliance (DA) in 2008. He was elected as a DA Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2009. Premier Helen Zille appointed him as the Provincial Minister for Housing.
