Mark Reigelman
Mark Reigelman is an American artist based in Brooklyn, New York. He is recognized for his large-scale public art, including ''Manifest Destiny'' at the Hotel des Arts in San Francisco, California, and ''Smökers'', a series of miniature houses positioned over steam-emitting manholes in New York City. Background Reigelman was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He pursued his studies in Sculpture and Industrial Design at the Cleveland Institute of Art and furthered his education in product design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts in London. He currently resides in Brooklyn, in a loft apartment that he redesigned. Notable works Reigelman's artworks have been exhibited in galleries, museums, and public spaces, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Shanghai Museum of Glass. Hotel Des Arts
Hotel des Arts is a boutique hotel in San Francisco, California. When it opened in 2005, 16 of its 51 rooms were painted by local artists–today 38 rooms are. Materials used include wall-mounted vinyl records, plastic bags, graffiti, fabrics, three-dimensional art work, and even installations. Rooms Room 404, painted by Tim Gaskin, was the source of some controversy. The walls are adorned with larger-than-life Louis Vuitton logos as well as an image of Madonna Madonna Louise Ciccone ( ; born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Referred to as the "Queen of Pop", she has been recognized for her continual reinvention and versatility in music production, .... Louis Vuitton sent a cease-and-desist letter to the hotel ordering them to remove the logos, but the hotel refused and instead held a special public exhibition to display the room.
