Mark Kennedy (judge)
Mark Kennedy (born May 5, 1952 in Greenville, Alabama) is an American jurist. He served as Associate Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court from 1989 to 1999. Previous to his service on the Supreme Court, Kennedy was appointed as judge of the District Court for Montgomery County in 1978, and was elected to that position in 1980. Concurrently, he was assigned as a full-time Family Court and Juvenile Court Judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit. In 1983, he was appointed as a circuit judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit, and was elected to that position in 1984. He succeeded Joe Turnham as chair of the Alabama Democratic Party from 2011 to 2013, when he resigned. Greenville, Alabama
Greenville is a city and the county seat of Butler County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,374. Greenville is known as the Camellia City, wherein originated the movement to change the official Alabama state flower from the goldenrod to the camellia with legislative sponsors LaMont Glass and H.B. Taylor. History Greenville was first settled in 1819. Its original name was Buttsville, but after becoming the county seat in 1822, its name was changed to Greenville, in remembrance of the former locale in South Carolina of many of the original settlers. The first county seat was at Fort Dale, a fortification that was named for Sam Dale, who fought to defend the area during the Creek War. The site of Fort Dale lies on the north of the city near the Fort Dale Cemetery, along what is now Alabama Highway 185. Alabama Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Alabama is the highest court in the state of Alabama. The court consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices. Each justice is elected in partisan elections for staggered six-year terms. The Supreme Court is housed in the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. The Governor of Alabama may fill vacancies when they occur for the remainder of unexpired terms. The current partisan line-up for the court is all Republican. There is no specific limitation on the number of terms to which a member may be elected. However, the state constitution under Amendment 328, adopted in 1973, prohibits any member from seeking election once they have attained the age of seventy years. Joe Turnham
Joe Turnham (born October 28, 1959 in Lee County, Alabama) is a United States politician who chaired the Alabama Democratic Party from 2005 to 2011. Family and education Turnham and his family reside in Auburn, and he is the son of Pete Turnham, a retired educator and a former member of the Alabama House of Representatives. He attended Samford University in Birmingham, but transferred to and later graduated from Auburn University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation he joined "Alabama Contract Sales, Incorporated," the family business. Nancy Worley
Nancy Worley (November 7, 1951 – December 29, 2021) was an American Democratic politician who served as Secretary of State of Alabama from 2003 to 2007 and Chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party from 2013 to 2019. Early life and education Worley was born in New Hope, Alabama on November 7, 1951. She received a B.A. degree from the University of Montevallo and an M.A. from Jacksonville State University. Career Worley served on many commissions across the state of Alabama as an advocate for educators and women. She taught for 25 years in the Decatur School System, and served two terms as the president of the Alabama Education Association (AEA) from 1983-1984 and 1995-1997.
