Mark Hawkins (musician)
Mark Hawkins (born 28 December 1985) is a British handball coach, currently head coach of Great Britain senior women's national team. He was born in Horsham, West Sussex. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed with the Great Britain men's national handball team in the men's tournament. Playing career Hawkins took up handball after deciding he was too short to play basketball. At club level, he played in Iceland with UMF Afturelding at the time of his Olympic selection. From 2014 to 2016, he played for Ruislip Eagles. He represented Britain at the 2012 Olympics as well as in Euro qualifying, scoring against Italy. As of 2016, he had scored 135 goals in 60 matches at international level. Coaching career Hawkins coached Britain's teams at youth level and eventually took the role of under 20 coach, before becoming an assistant coach for China women's national team. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. Horsham, West Sussex
Horsham () is a market town on the upper reaches of the River Arun on the fringe of the Weald in West Sussex, England. The town is south south-west of London, north-west of Brighton and north-east of the county town of Chichester. Great Britain Men's National Handball Team
The Great Britain men's national handball team is the national handball team of Great Britain and is controlled by the British Handball Association which is jointly operated by the England Handball Association and the Scottish Handball Association. Formed in 1969, the team took part in international competitions from 1972 to 2003. Handball At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's handball tournament at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 28 July to 12 August at the Olympic Park. The group stage matches were held at the Copper Box and the knockout rounds took place at the larger Basketball Arena. Twelve nations were represented in the tournament. The four best teams from each group advanced to a quarter-final round, while the 5th and 6th teams in each group were classified 9th–12th by the results of their group matches. Unlike in previous Olympics there was no placement matches involving the losing teams of the quarter-finals. Idrettsklubben Våg is a Norwegian sports club from Vågsbygd in Kristiansand. It has sections for association football, team handball, badminton and athletics. The club was founded on 12 January 1938, and the club colors are green and white.
