Marjorie Gwynne
Marjorie Gwynne (born Marjorie Campbell Church: 7 April 1886 – 12 June 1958) was an Australian artist who lived in Adelaide. She worked both in oils and watercolours and was known for her strong use of tertiary colours especially in landscape and still life. Her early style was impressionist, but later developed a more modernist style, influenced by Dorrit Black. Early life and career Gywnne was born in Adelaide in 1886 to Jennie (nee Johnson) and Harry Church. In 1904, she commenced her art studies under the guidance of Hayley Lever. In 1906, she began studying at the South Australian School of Design with Archibald Collins and continued studies with him until 1919. In 1910, the Adelaide Drawing and Sketch Club produced a magazine entitled ''The'' ''High Light'' with literary and artworks from various Australian writers and artists, including Mary Gilmore. Cruthers Collection of Women's Art is a collection of more than 700 artworks by Australian women, held at the University of Western Australia University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research university in the Australian state of Western Australia. Hans Heysen
Sir Hans Heysen (8 October 18772 July 1968) was an Australian artist. One of Australia's best known landscape painters, Heysen became a household name during his lifetime for his watercolours and oil paintings of the Australian bush, in particular men and animals toiling among monumental gum trees against a background of atmospheric light. He also won acclaim for his groundbreaking depictions of arid landscapes in the Flinders Ranges. He won the Wynne Prize for landscape painting a record nine times. Jeffrey Smart
Frank Jeffrey Edson Smart (26 July 1921 – 20 June 2013) was an expatriate Australian painter known for his precisionist depictions of urban landscapes that are "full of private jokes and playful allusions". Smart was born and educated in Adelaide where he worked as an Art teacher. After departing for Europe in 1948 he studied in Paris at La Grande Chaumière, and later at the Académie Montmartre under Fernand Léger. He returned to Australia 1951, living in Sydney, and began exhibiting frequently in 1957. In 1963, he moved to Italy. After a successful exhibition in London, he bought a rural property called "Posticcia Nuova" near Arezzo in Tuscany. He resided there with his partner until his death. A major retrospective of his works travelled around Australian art galleries 1999–2000.
