Maria Sophia Of Neuburg
Maria Sophia Elisabeth of Neuburg (6 August 1666 – 4 August 1699) was List of Portuguese royal consorts, Queen of Portugal as the wife of Peter II of Portugal, King Peter II from 1687 until her death in 1699. ''The Guarani: Brazilian Romance'' () is a 1857 Brazilian novel written by José de Alencar. It was first serialized in the newspaper ''Diário do Rio de Janeiro'', but due to its enormous success Alencar decided to compile his writing in a volume. A plausible explanation for this success might be in the fact that the novel spoke of freedom and independence, arguing for a nativeness that could be found in tropical nature and in the indigenous people of Brazil. Years later the novel was turned into an opera performed in Italian and called '' Il Guarany'' (1870), by Carlos Gomes, among other places it was presented in Milan and New York (it is a known fact that the author did not appreciate the final result). The Exchange of the Princesses (; ) refers to the ceremonies of the double marriage of Spanish Infanta Mariana Victoria of Spain to the heir of the Portuguese throne, Joseph, Prince of Brazil, and of her older half-brother Ferdinand, Prince of Asturias to Joseph's sister the Infanta Barbara of Portugal, in January 1729. In what was a complex diplomatic and protocolary arrangement, the two sets of princes and princesses were escorted to the Portugal–Spain border by the two Iberian royal courts and were exchanged on a purpose-built ephemeral pavilion built on a bridge over the Caia River, by the towns of Elvas (on the Portuguese side) and Badajoz (on the Spanish side). Luís Vaz de Camões (; or 1525 – 10 June 1580), sometimes rendered in English as Camoens or Camoëns ( ), is considered Portugal's and the Portuguese language's greatest poet. Antônio Carlos Gomes (; 11 July 1836 in Campinas – 16 September 1896 in Belém) was a Brazilian composer notable for being the first New World composer whose work was accepted by Europe. He was the only non-European who was successful as an opera composer in Italy, during the "golden age of opera", contemporary to Verdi and Puccini and the first composer of non-European lineage to be accepted into the Classic tradition of music. Younger than Verdi, yet older than Puccini, Carlos Gomes achieved his first major success in a time when the Italian audiences were eager for a new name to celebrate and Puccini had not yet officially started his career. José Martiniano de Alencar (May 1, 1829 – December 12, 1877) was a Brazilian lawyer, politician, orator, novelist and dramatist.
