Maritime Super Series
The Maritime Super Series is an annual soccer exhibition tournament contested by three teams in the Maritimes, Canada. The competition is a showcase series for a potential semi-professional League1 Canada competition for teams in the region, to be known as "League1 Atlantic". Format and teams The series was formed in response to an interest in the formation of a potential League1 Atlantic division that would form part of League1 Canada. Three clubs, one from each Maritime province, participated in the inaugural 2023 edition of the men's and women's tournaments, which were played over three weekends and each culminated in a final. The HFX Wanderers initially intended to field teams in the 2024 edition, however, they ultimately did not. In May 2024, it was announced that the competition would return for the 2024 season, but solely as a women's competition. The Maritimes
The Maritimes, also called the Maritime provinces, is a region of Eastern Canada consisting of three provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. The Maritimes had a population of 1,899,324 in 2021, which makes up 5.1% of Canada's population. Together with Canada's easternmost province, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Maritime provinces make up the region of Atlantic Canada. Located along the Atlantic coast, various aquatic sub-basins are located in the Maritimes, such as the Gulf of Maine and Gulf of St. Lawrence. The region is located northeast of New England in the United States, south and southeast of Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula, and southwest of the island of Newfoundland. Atlantic Time Zone
The Atlantic Time Zone is a geographical region that keeps standard time—called Atlantic Standard Time (AST)—by subtracting four hours from Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC), resulting in UTC−04:00. AST is observed in parts of North America including several Caribbean islands. During part of the year, some portions of the zone observe daylight saving time, referred to as Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT), by moving their clocks forward one hour to UTC−03:00. The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 60th meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. 2021 Summer Series
The 2021 Summer Series was a series of friendly soccer matches played between six clubs from Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. The eight matches were held to showcase a potential national second division within the Canadian soccer league system. The Summer Series ran from 26 June to 8 August, 2021. All fixtures played were sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association. Sydney Marcella Kennedy (born March 2, 2001) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for Halifax Tides FC in the Northern Super League. Early life Kennedy played for various youth teams in Nova Scotia, before eventually joining Suburban FC. She was named the 2016 Soccer Nova Scotia Youth Female Player of the Year. Cory Bent (born 14 May 1997) is an English professional footballer. Early life Bent was born in Manchester and grew up in Preston, Lancashire. He began playing football at age six, and spent a year with the academy of Premier League giants Manchester United at the under-8 level. Charlie Tutan Waters (born September 10, 1948) is an American former professional football player who spent his entire 12-year career as a safety for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Clemson Tigers.
