Maritime Broadcasting System
Maritime Broadcasting System Limited, branded as MBS Radio, is a private Canadian broadcasting company owning 21 radio stations serving several communities in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. MBS Radio was established in 1969 as Eastern Broadcasting Limited in Campbellton, New Brunswick and is currently owned by Rob Pace. The company's head office is now located in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Lovett Lake Court in the Bayers Lake area. Prior to moving to its new location at Lovett Lake Court, they were located on Sackville Street in Downtown Halifax. CJRW-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 102.1 FM in Summerside, Prince Edward Island owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. The station plays an adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''102 Spud FM''. CJRW is the only radio station in Prince Edward Island that is not being licensed to Charlottetown. History The station was launched in 1927 as CHGS originally broadcasting at 1120 on the AM dial. In 1934, the station moved to 1450, then to 1480 in 1941, and then to its final AM frequency at 1240 in 1948. The station also adopted its current call letters at the time. In November 1999, CJRW officially made its move to the FM band at 102.1 MHz. After the switch to FM, the station became known as C102 with a country format. Summerside, Prince Edward Island
Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island. History Summerside was officially incorporated as a town on April 1, 1877. On April 1, 1995, the Town of Summerside amalgamated with the incorporated communities of St. Eleanors and Wilmot. At the same time, the amalgamated Summerside annexed portions of the Community of Sherbrooke and the Lot 17 township. CHLQ-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 93.1 FM in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The station is owned by the Maritime Broadcasting System and currently broadcasts a mainstream rock format branded on-air as ''Max 93.1''. The station has been on the air since March 1982. On July 16, 2012, CHLQ switched from adult contemporary/ classic hits (''Magic 93'') to mainstream rock (''Q93''). As of early 2017, the Morning Show portion of the program has been renamed from "The Q Morning Crew with Paul and Anne" to "The Unbalanced Breakfast with Joee Adams."m On April 1, 2022, Q93 rebranded to Max 93.1 maintaining a mainstream rock format. CFCY-FM
CFCY-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 95.1 FM in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with a country format branded on-air as ''95.1 CFCY''. The station is owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. History The station was first launched by radio pioneer Keith Rogers on August 15, 1924 as 10AS on 250 meters. In 1925, the station was granted a full license as CFCY, broadcasting at 960 AM. It is among the oldest radio stations in Canada. In 1931, it moved to 580 AM, and then to its final AM frequency at 630 in 1933. Originally known as "The Friendly Voice of the Maritimes", the location in the centre of the Gulf of St. Lawrence allowed CFCY's 5,000-watt daytime signal to reach portions of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and New England as well as most of the Maritime provinces. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. It was the site of the famous Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering of Canadian and Maritime statesmen to discuss the proposed Maritime Union. Middleton, Nova Scotia
Middleton is a town in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Situated on the north bank of the Annapolis River, it is located close to the centre of the Annapolis Valley, from which it gets its nickname, "The Heart of the Valley". History Where the Annapolis River and the Nictaux river meet was a popular shad fishing spot for Mi'kmaq families before the arrival of the European settlers. It would be later settled by French Acadians that used these waterways to reach the capital of Port-Royal and farming. Digby, Nova Scotia
Digby is an incorporated town in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada. It is in the historical county of Digby and a separate municipality from the Municipality of the District of Digby. The town is situated on the western shore of the Annapolis Basin near the entrance to the Digby Gut, which connects the basin to the Bay of Fundy. Named after Admiral Robert Digby, the town has a scallop fishing fleet. The MV ''Fundy Rose'' ferry service connects the town to Saint John, New Brunswick. CFAB is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 1450 AM in Windsor, Nova Scotia. The station currently airs a country format branded as ''AVR'', and is owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. The station also airs a mix of locally produced programming and simulcasting of its sister station CKEN-FM from Kentville. History The station was launched on November 13, 1945 by Evangeline Broadcasting, and was acquired by Annapolis Valley Radio, which would eventually become the Maritime Broadcasting System, in 1979. The station was given partial authorization by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission to convert to the FM band in 2006, contingent on choosing a different frequency than its original application. Windsor, Nova Scotia
Windsor is a community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a service centre for the western part of the county and is situated on Highway 101. The community has a history dating back to its use by the Mi'kmaq Nation for several millennia prior to European colonization. CKPE-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Sydney, Nova Scotia at 94.9 FM. The station broadcasts a classic hits format branded as ''94.9 The Wave''. The station has been on the air since 1957 under the original call sign CJCB-FM. The station is owned and operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. CJCB and CHER-FM are its sister stations. Every weekend, CKPE plays vintage ''American Top 40'' countdown shows hosted by Casey Kasem, one from the 1980s every Saturday morning, and one from the 1970s every Sunday morning.
