Marit Henie Moe
Marit Henie Moe (13 February 1925 – 4 November 2012) was a Norwegian figure skater who competed in single skating and pair skating; she was a six-time national champion in single skating and two-time champion in pair skating. She was a cousin of figure skater Sonja Henie, and her skating partner was Erling Bjerkhoel. Biography Henie began skating in the early 1930s as a member of Oslo SK. In 1935, she went to London to train, and in 1936 she began training with Hans Gerschwiler. Maribel Vinson reported that she was good with compulsory figures and "very stiff" in her free skating. She was the 1936 Norwegian junior champion. Henie later switched to the club Oslo IL, and she began to compete pairs in 1940, when she won the senior national championships with Bjerkhoel. Her career was interrupted by the start of World War II. Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of 1,064,235 in 2022, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. Ulrich Salchow
Karl Emil Julius Ulrich Salchow (7 August 1877 – 19 April 1949) was a Danish-born Swedish figure skater, who dominated the sport in the first decade of the 20th century. Salchow won the World Figure Skating Championships ten times, from 1901 to 1905 and from 1907 to 1911. This is still a record, which he shares with Sonja Henie who also won 10 titles in the 1920s and 1930s, and with Irina Rodnina who won 10 titles in the 1960s and 1970s. Salchow did not compete in the 1906 World Championships that were held in Munich, as he feared that he would not be judged fairly against Gilbert Fuchs of Germany. When figure skating was first contested at the Summer Olympic Games in London (1908), Salchow also won the title with ease and became one of the oldest figure skating Olympic champions. World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). The first World Championships were held in 1896 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and they have been held ever since with only four interruptions. A separate competition for women was established in 1905, with the men's and women's events held as separate competitions for several years. Pair skating was added in 1908 and ice dance in 1952. Skaters are eligible to compete at the World Championships, provided they represent a member nation of the International Skating Union and are selected by their respective federation. Skating federations have the liberty to make their own selections, but skaters competing at the World Championships must have earned the minimum required element scores. The Norwegian Skating Association (, NSF) is the main skating authoritative body in Norway. It oversees speed skating, figure skating, short track speed skating on ice, and more recently inline and roller skating. The Norwegian Skating Association was founded on 27 February 1893 and currently has about 7,000 members. Leena Pietilä
Irja Ester Helena "Leena" Pietilä, married surname: Vainio (born 29 March 1925 – 20 May 2014) was a Finnish figure skater. She was a two-time Nordic champion and a seven-time Finnish national champion. Early life On 29 March 1925, Pietilä was born in Rauma, Finland. Career Pietilä was a figure skater for Helsingfors Skridskoklubb in Helsinki. Pietilä placed 16th at the 1947 World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden; 13th at the 1950 European Championships in Oslo, Norway; and 13th at the 1951 European Championships in Zürich, Switzerland. In February 1952, Pietilä represented Finland at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway, and finished 20th. After retiring from competition, Pietilä became an international figure skating judge and coach.
