Mariska Huisman (born 23 November 1983) is a Dutch marathon skater and speed skater. She was the first winner of a mass start worldcup in Astana. At this moment she is the number 2 on the world ranking list. She won the 2011–12 mass start World Cup with a total of 320 points. She did not start in the 2013 national championship mass start on 30 December 2013 due to the untimely death of her brother Sjoerd Huisman Sjoerd Huisman (19 June 1986 – 30 December 2013) was a Dutch speed skating, speed skater who specialised in marathon speed skating. Andijk
Andijk (; ) is a former municipality and a village bordering Lake IJssel in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia. Since 1 January 2011 Andijk has been part of Medemblik municipality. The name Andijk comes from the . In 1667 a small church was built. Thialf
Thialf () is an ice arena in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Thialf is used for long track speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, figure skating, ice speedway, and non-sporting events. The outdoor rink was opened in 1967, and the indoor stadium was opened in 1986. Several world records have been set in the indoor stadium. Annually, Thialf hosts two Speed Skating World Cup events. Jan de Jong was the ice rink master at Thialf for many years. History Thialf is named after Thialfi, a character in Norse mythology, who was Thor's servant and had to race a giant. Sjoerd Huisman (19 June 1986 – 30 December 2013) was a Dutch speed skating, speed skater who specialised in marathon speed skating. Career Huisman made his debut in marathon speed skating in 2005 to become one of the best sprinters in the peloton. His biggest success was winning the Dutch championship on natural ice in 2009 at the Oostvaardersplassen. A year later Huisman won the Essent Cup and the Dutch Open at the Austrian Weissensee (Carinthia), Weissensee. Huisman was also successful in inline skating. In 2010 he won the Dutch marathon championship. In May 2011, Huisman was involved in a car accident after he blacked-out behind the wheel. Seven months later he returned to the peloton. The women's mass start in the 2011–12 ISU Speed Skating World Cup was contested over three races on three occasions, out of a total of seven World Cup occasions for the season, with the first occasion involving the event taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 25–27 November 2011, and the final occasion taking place in Berlin, Germany, on 9–11 March 2012.
