Marisa Ewers
Marisa Henrike Ewers is a German former footballer who played as a defender for Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV. She is currently General Manager of Aston Villa Women. Ewers started playing football at the age of eight. In 2006, she joined Bundesliga club Hamburger SV where she first played for the reserve team in the second German division Since 2007, Ewers had been part of the Bundesliga team. However in 2012, shortly after Hamburg announced its disestablishment of the women's section, she joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen where she immediately became a regular starter. In 2008, Ewers was part of the German squad which took part at the Under-19 Championship. Ewers moved to English football, joining Birmingham City in 2016, before leaving to join their rivals Aston Villa in the division below, helping them to secure promotion to the Women's Super League. Women's Championship (England)
The Women's Championship (formerly The FA Women's Championship) is the second-highest division of women's football in England. The division was established in 2014 as the FA Women's Super League 2 (WSL 2). WSL 2 replaced the previous level 2 division, the FA Women's Premier League (WPL) National Division, which ended after the 2012–13 season. The WPL's last national division champions, Sunderland A.F.C. Women, were not promoted and also became the first winners of WSL 2 in the 2014 season. The 2017–18 FA WSL was the seventh edition of the FA WSL since it was formed in 2010. It was the first season of WSL which ran as a winter league. It started in September 2017 and ended in May 2018, with ten teams competing in both leagues. The Football Association removed promotion and relegation between the two tiers for the end of the season. The FA WSL Spring Series was an interim edition of the FA WSL between the sixth and seventh full seasons. The Spring Series ran from February to May 2017 to bridge the gap from the 2016 FA WSL season which ran from March to September as a summer tournament, and the 2017–18 season which started in September 2017. While the 2017–18 season planned to feature 21 clubs, the Spring Series contained 20. Notts County Ladies F.C. folded two days before they were due to play their first Spring Series game, leaving 19 teams in total.
