Mario Perillo
Mario Perillo (August 15, 1926 – February 28, 2003) was an American businessman and chairman of Perillo Tours, Inc. He expanded his father Joseph Perillo's business, founded in 1945, to become the largest US operator of tours to Italy. Mario Perillo was perhaps best known to the public for his television commercials during the 1980s and 1990s, earning him the nickname "Mr. Italy". Perillo was born in 1926 and graduated from New York Law School. He owned (but never resided in) the historic Achenbach House in Saddle River, New Jersey Saddle River is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is a suburb of New York City, located just over northwest of Manhattan. New York Law School (NYLS) is a private, American law school in the Tribeca neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City. The third oldest law school in New York City, its history predates its official founding in 1891 by Theodore William Dwight, Theodore Dwight: Dwight founded Columbia Law School in 1858 when he became its first and only professor. Achenbach House
The Achenbach House remains are located at 184 Chestnut Ridge Road in the borough of Saddle River in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The stone house was built around 1757 by Johan George Achenbach and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 1979, for its significance in architecture. With accompanying six photos. It was listed as part of the Early Stone Houses of Bergen County Multiple Property Submission (MPS) and the Saddle River MPS. The house was the home of Larry Blyden and Carol Haney in the 1960s. It was owned (but never occupied) by travel pioneer Mario Perillo until his death in 2003, and subsequently passed on to a trust in his son Stephen Perillo's name, who is the present owner. It was largely destroyed by fire in 2004, though a portion of the original structure remains intact as a guest cottage.
