Mario Pabón, in full Mario Enrique Pabón Cantin (13 August 1930 – 27 November 1996) was a Dominican-Puerto Rican actor, director and show host. He was known for his work on Puerto Rican television and cinema. Early life Pabón was born in Quisqueya, Dominican Republic, Quisqueya, San Pedro de Macorís Province, Dominican Republic, the son of Melba Cantin Rovira (born in San Pedro de Macorís, San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, to Oscar Cantin, a Swiss American from Louisiana, and Angelina Rovira Carbó, a Puerto Rican from Arroyo, Puerto Rico, Arroyo) and Mario Pabón Urrutia (from Llanos Costa, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, Llanos Costa, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico). Marta Romero
Marta Romero (17 February 1928 – 31 May 2013) was a Puerto Rican actress and singer, and one of the pioneers in Puerto Rican television. Early life Romero was born on Calle Mora in downtown Ponce, a city in the south coast of Puerto Rico and was raised in Machuelo Abajo, then a rural neighborhood located on the road from Ponce to Juana Díaz. In 1940, when she was thirteen years old, she won the contest in a local radio station, ''Los aficionados de WPAB'', an amateur show for performers. That led to other radio shows in musical programs, such as ''Variedades musicales'' and also acting parts in soap operas and ''Cosas de amor'', among other programs broadcast through WPAB. In 1944, she became the lead female vocalist of the local Ponce orchestra Mingo & His Whoopie Kids and toured the Island. ''El Mundo'' () is a Puerto Rican newspaper founded in 1919 by Romualdo Real. Its slogan was "Verdad y Justicia" (Truth and Justice). In 1929, former corrector-turned-administrator Angel Ramos and journalist José Coll Vidal, bought the newspaper when Real retired. In 1944 Ramos became the sole owner of the newspaper. Acquisitions ''El Mundo'' acquired WKAQ AM, the oldest radio station on the island, and later added WKAQ-TV channel 2. ''El Mundo'' also established WKAQ-FM, but it is unknown if the current station at 104.7 MHz was part of the operation in the Ramos days. Ángel Ramos Torres (December 3, 1902 – September 1, 1960) was a Puerto Rican industrialist. He entered during high school years as a typesetter, and went on to become the owner of the newspaper. He also founded Radio El Mundo and WKAQ-TV Telemundo. Early years Ramos was born into a poor family in the northern town of Manatí, Puerto Rico. He was the only son born to Juan Ramón Ramos Vélez and Braulia Torres Giliberty, and only 3 years old when his father died. He was raised by his mother and an aunt, and finished his primary education. However in 1917, at age 15 years, he felt that in Manati he didn't have a future and so left his home; he then moved to San Juan, the capital city of Puerto Rico.
