Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 is the headquarters element of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and is located at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Mission The mission of Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 is to provide administrative and supply support for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Headquarters. History MWHS 3 was activated 10 November 1942 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, as Headquarters Squadron 3, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. They were deployed during April–May 1944 to Ewa, territory of Hawaii. The squadron was deactivated on 31 December 1945. The squadron was reactivated on 1 February 1952 at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, as Headquarters Squadron 3 (HS-3), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The United States Marine Corps Aviation (USMCA) is the aircraft arm of the United States Marine Corps. Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 is the headquarters element of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and is located at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point History Commissioned on 31 December 1955, Marine Wing Headquarters Group 2 was garrisoned at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. At that time, the unit was composed of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron 2, Marine Air Support Squadron 1, and Marine Air Control Squadron 7 and Marine Air Control Squadron 8. MCAS El Toro
Marine Corps Air Station El Toro was a United States Marine Corps Air Station located next to the community of El Toro and was then adjacent to the city of Irvine. Before it was decommissioned in 1999, it was the home of Marine Corps Aviation on the West Coast. Designated as a Master Jet Base, its four runways (two of and two of ) could handle the largest aircraft in the U.S. military inventory. While it was active, all U.S. Presidents in the post-World War II era landed in ''Air Force One'' at this airfield. The El Toro "Flying Bull" patch was designed by Walt Disney Studios in 1944.
