Marine Drive Academy
Marine Drive Academy (MDA) is a K-12, P-12 school in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada. The school is located in the Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Municipality and is a part of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. It is located adjacent to its predecessor, Duncan MacMillan High School, and on the site of the former Sheet Harbour Consolidated School. Construction began in late 2017 and the building opened in September 2020. Avondale Construction was enlisted as the contractor, while Century Exteriors and FBM Architecture handled the exterior and interior design respectively. The structure of the building was influenced heavily by the surrounding landscape, and is designed to also act as a community hub. As of 2020, 256 students were enrolled in the school. K-12
K-1 is a professional kickboxing promotion established in 1993 by karateka Kazuyoshi Ishii. Originally under the ownership of the Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG), K-1 was considered to be the largest Kickboxing organization in the world. The organization was known for its heavyweight division fights and Grand Prix tournaments. K-1 also promoted mixed martial arts events, with some events having both kickboxing and MMA matches on their cards (such as their K-1 Premium Dynamite!!, Dynamite!! series). The promotion has also held several tournaments under K-2 and K-3 banners from 1993 to 1995. FEG would later face financial issues in the 2010s, and eventually went bankrupt in 2012. The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (formerly the Halifax Regional School Board) is the public school district responsible for 136 elementary, junior high, and high schools located in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Duncan MacMillan High School
Duncan MacMillan High School (DMHS) was a P-12 school in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was replaced by Marine Drive Academy. Duncan MacMillan High hosts grades primary–12, as well as a pre-primary program and teaches 249 students. It has the largest geographical area for bussing in the Halifax Regional School Board. As of 2017-18, the school's administrative team consisted of Principal Ronnie Reynolds and Vice Principal Troy Smith. In addition, there are 20 teaching staff and 12 support staff. Although DMHS is small in student population, it does provide the courses necessary for any post-secondary program. Sheet Harbour Consolidated School was a school located in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada, which welcomed students from grades primary through six. The school was a peanut/nut safe school. In April 2008, Sheet Harbour achieved the Green School Award for the completion of 100 environmental projects. Each year the school had a Holiday/Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert.
