Marilyn Brick
Marilyn Brick is a former politician in Manitoba, Canada. She served in the Manitoba legislature from 2003 to 2011, representing St. Norbert. Brick was educated at the University of Manitoba, graduating from the university's Bachelor of Physical Education program and receiving a Continuing Education Division Certificate in Human Resource Management. She has been involved in a number of community programs, serving as President of the Richmond Kings Community Centre and as a member of the Manitoba Parks and Recreation Association Board of Governors. Brick has also founded a day care advocacy group, received a Citation Award for volunteer service to the Red Cross, and served on the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500. Prior to her election, Brick worked in the Community Services Department of the City of Winnipeg. 2007 Manitoba General Election
The 2007 Manitoba general election was held on May 22, 2007 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It was won by the New Democratic Party, which won 36 seats out of 57. The Progressive Conservative Party finished second with nineteen seats. The Liberal Party won two seats. As a result, Premier of Manitoba Gary Doer received a mandate to form a third consecutive majority government, becoming the first Premier of Manitoba to achieve this since Duff Roblin in 1966. Marcel Laurendeau
Marcel Laurendeau is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 1990 to 2003, representing the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba in the south-end Winnipeg riding of St. Norbert. Laurendeau began his political career at the municipal level, having been elected to the Winnipeg City Council in 1988 (replacing John Angus, who had been elected to the provincial legislature). He was himself elected to the provincial legislature in the provincial election of 1990, defeating Liberal Angus by 117 votes. For the next five years, Laurendeau was a backbench supporter of Premier Gary Filmon. He was briefly kidnapped in his car in 1992, and subsequently called for greater security on the legislative grounds. Today, the legislature is made of two elements: the King of Canada in Right of Manitoba, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, and the unicameral assembly called the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba.
